> AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism is a calculus-based university-level E&M course covering electrostatics, conductors and capacitors, electric circuits, magnetic fields, electromagnetism, and Maxwell's equations in integral form. The exam expects fluency with Gauss's law, Ampère's law, and Faraday's law. We sequence the units so that field calculations build on calculus, not vice versa.

## What it tests

Physics C: E&M tests whether students can apply Gauss's law, Ampère's law, and Faraday's law to set up integrals over physically reasonable surfaces and loops, then solve for fields or induced quantities.

RC and LR circuit FRQs test separable differential equations in a physical context — students must set up the equation, solve it with the correct initial condition, and interpret the time constant.

### Should I take Physics C: Mechanics before Physics C: E&M?

Yes — Mechanics is the prerequisite. The calculus toolkit (line integrals, separable ODEs) is built in Mechanics and used immediately in E&M.

### Are the two Physics C exams taken on the same day?

They are typically scheduled close together. Many students sit both in the same exam window. Each has its own preparation programme.

### Is Physics C: E&M needed for US engineering admissions?

It is not strictly required but it strengthens the signal substantially for electrical, computer, and physics engineering programmes. Mechanics alone is the more common baseline.
